The British Chapter of the 1818 Society was created in 1988 in order to facilitate contacts between World Bank retirees living in the UK and to act as a liaison with the Bank on matters of concern to former staff and their spouses/partners. The British Chapter currently has about 300 members and is run by a Board of Directors. The Chairman is assisted by a Deputy, a Secretary, a Treasurer and five representatives responsible for organising events, membership database, WB Benefits, and Outreach. Board members are elected at a General Meeting in May for a two-year term. In addition to organizing social gatherings for the members, the British Chapter provides information relevant to World Bank retirees and a forum for professional activities. The Chapter currently has two annual gatherings of members and spouses/guests: a Spring Reunion and Annual Meeting in May extending over three days in a different region of the United Kingdom, and a luncheon held in December in London.
