The British Chapter of The 1818 Society was created in 1988 in order to facilitate contacts between World Bank Group alumni and retirees living in the UK. It also acts as a liaison with the World Bank Group on matters of concern to former staff and their spouses/partners such as pensions and health insurance.

Membership of the 1818 Society British Chapter is open to former staff members (including UK Executive Directors, Alternates and their staff) who are either receiving a World Bank pension or have chosen a deferred pension; and others who have provided 3 years or more, including some pensionable services in the World Bank Group. Surviving spouses of deceased retiree members automatically become members unless they request otherwise.

The British Chapter currently has around 300 members and is run by a Board of Directors. The Chair is assisted by a Deputy, a Membership Secretary, a Treasurer and further representatives responsible for IFC Liaison, Reunion Events, Seminars, World Bank Group Benefits and Pensions, and Outreach. Board Members are elected at a General Meeting in May.
