2005 Spring Reunion of the British Chapter in Ludlow
The 2005 Spring Reunion and Seventeenth Annual Meeting was held in Ludlow, Herefordshire, with the assistance of Nicholas and Joy Wallis. Ludlow is one of the most attractive, interesting and vibrant small towns in the UK and its famous “black-and-white” Feathers Hotel was our centre.
Forty-four members walked around Ludlow town on late Friday afternoon for two hours with three well-informed guides from the Ludlow Historical Research Group. Saturday was our usual tourist day with a coach drive into the country stopping at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre and Powis Castle and Garden. On Saturday evening, Dame Margaret Anstee, former Under Secretary-General of the United Nations, joined us for dinner and spoke on “ Peace Building in Africa, with special reference to Angola”, a subject on which she has first-hand field experience. We concluded our May Reunion on Sunday with the Annual Meeting and lunch. A total of 68 members and spouses participated in the weekend including the Presidents of The 1818 Society and of the German and Dutch Chapters.
