Our Twentieth Annual Meeting and Spring Reunion will be held in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, over the weekend of Friday 16 th to Sunday 18 th May, 2008. We will be staying at the Swan’s Nest Hotel, which is part of the Macdonald Hotels Group. The hotel is on the banks of the River Avon and is easily accessible to the town centre via the Tramway Bridge.

The weekend has been planned to enable you to appreciate the heritage – particularly that connected to Shakespeare and his family – that made the town famous. It includes a town walkabout, a reception at the Shakespeare Centre (opened in 1964 by Eugene R Black, World Bank President from 1949 to 1963), a visit to the town’s Butterfly Farm, a back stage tour and attendance at a matinee performance of a Shakespearian play. Mrs Vikki Heywood, Chief Executive of the Royal Shakespeare Company, will be delivering the after dinner speech on Saturday. The Annual Meeting on Sunday, followed by a traditional Sunday roast lunch, will conclude the Spring Reunion.

This year, we will again be using our traditional way of paying for the hotel rooms. Each participant must make their own arrangements with the hotel using a credit or debit card at least 2 months prior to the event. You pay the British Chapter for the overhead costs of drinks for the Friday and Saturday dinners and the Sunday lunch. The various events and outings are paid for separately. You pay the British Chapter directly for the various events and outings, for the cost of drinks for the Friday and Saturday dinners and for Sunday lunch.

Some 25 double/twin-bedded rooms and 10 single rooms have been reserved at the hotel at a DB&B rate of £150 per double room per night (i.e., £75 per person per night) and £98 per single room per night for the 2-night stay (Friday and Saturday). Additional rooms will be available, if needed, at the same rate. Sunday lunch will be a traditional roast meal and will cost £18 per person. The overhead costs for drinks on Friday and Saturday evenings, Sunday lunch and a small contribution towards the costs of entertaining Vikki Heywood and her husband Clive will be £37. The hotel has 62 free car parking spaces that are accessed from Swan’s Nest Lane. Additional free car parking is available over the road at their sister hotel, the Alveston Manor. The hotel does not have an elevator, although rooms on the ground floor are wheel-chair accessible.
